Fitness Is fun!

This may come as surprise to you but I Fuckin’ love fitness.  I love everything about it.  The gym clothes, the sweat, the challenges you overcome, the endorphins, the looking good, the feeling good, the jealousy you see in your friends and family members eyes every time they see you… I love it.

There is something to be said about a person who takes care of themselves.  There is a certain pride in it.  I wake up early every morning ( 4:30am) to hit my workout before my first client or to train others before they start their work day.

Now, I know what you are thinking… “Of course you love it Crow, you are a fucking personal trainer” and ” I am just a regular ole Joe.  I have an office type job. Moving isn’t my thing. I’ve never been athletic or played sports”.  So yeah, of course you love it Adam.  Its all you’ve ever known right?  Ok, yeah, true enough.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t make fitness fun.

Fitness is a lifestyle.  Anything else is a death-style.

Don’t kid yourself.  If you don’t break some form sweat on a daily basis, whether its a brisk walk on the seawall or a full on sweat session at the gym or playing a recreational sport you love from childhood… you are indeed dying faster than me.  You will also (most likely) experience a myriad of health problems in your life if all you do is:

-sit at a desk all day,
-head home to sit on the couch watching Netflix,
          -while eating pizza, and
-then head to bed to do it all over again tomorrow.

If this is you- don’t worry but you need to be made aware that most chronic health issues can be fixed, almost immediately if you begin to eat better and move more.  Such ailments like high blood pressure, high resting heart rate, obesity, heart disease, poor sleeping, depression, anxiety and the list goes on.  All the typical woes of western living can be “cured” without pills, without doctors, just good old hard work.

I strongly choose to believe that we all know this intuitively and I refuse to believe that the general population is sooo ignorant that they don’t know this at some level.  Don’t believe me? Do me a favour,  stop reading this and head outside and do one lap around your block.  Just a light jog, real slow.  Come back and read on.  I guarantee you will feel 10 times better, retain more of this blog post, improve your memory, improve your mood, improve your ALIVENESS.  And that was just a 5 minute jog around the block.  Imagine a regular routine of hitting the gym 2-3 times a week, walking for a few hours a week, hitting that spin class or boxing class, playing hockey or dodgeball or whatever you love to do.

Fitness is Fun.  You just haven’t given it a fair shot yet.  Maybe you hate the thought of the gym or you have no clue what to do with the weights or you straight up suck at sports.  You my friend are the ones that hire a personal trainer to show you that yes you can do it, yes it is fun, yes results do indeed breed more fitness and more fun.  Ok maybe the gym just isn’t your thing.  We live in a time that the gym can mean many things: commercial gyms, spin studios, boxing gyms, barre classes, rec sports, jogging, running, walking.

Sometimes what makes it fun is the people you meet and face challenges with, exchange healthy recipes with, plan hikes with.  Sometimes buying a new outfit from Lulu Lemon is the fun part.  Looking good, feeling good.  For the crazies like myself its simply crushing a workout, especially on a day where it was the last thing I wanted to do… that feeling after, the endorphins and adrenaline coursing through my entire body.  Cloud nine!

Believe me, I wrote this because I care.  I wrote this because I read articles and blogs and listen to podcasts everyday and one thing is very clear: as a society we are failing at sustaining our own lives.  Yeah sure we have successful careers and beautiful families but we are failing to live healthy lives.  The stress and strain the majority of people are putting on the government, health care and tax payers is enormous… don’t believe me type into google “obesity epidemic”, see what you find.

Crow, out.
